The Ramos Gin Fizz.
RAMOS GIN FIZZ
Let’s concoct:
2 oz Gin
1.5 oz Club Soda
0.75 oz Heavy Whipping Cream
0.75 oz Simple Syrup
0.5 oz Lime Juice
0.5 oz Lemon Juice
5 Drops Orange Flower Water
1 Egg White
*Pour club soda into a chilled Collin’s glass and set it aside. Combine remaining ingredients into a cocktail shaker, and dry shake (for 30 seconds to a1 minute) to get the frothy texture. Add ice and shake vigorously to chill. Double-strain into your Collin’s glass with the club soda. No garnish needed, but if you feel like it’s naked, maybe an orange twist.
I think if I came home after a long day and my special someone made this for me…that’d how I’d know he really loved me. The time and work that goes into this heartwarming drink really says something. Invented back in 1888 by Henry Carl Ramos at the Imperial Cabinet Saloon in New Orleans, this light and creamy gin cocktail is both loved and loathed by bartenders around the world. As legend tells it, this fizz (originally named the New Orleans Fizz) was so popular at Ramos's bar that they needed at least 20 bartenders to work on a single cocktail. To meet the constant demand for this libation, Ramos had a chain of "shaker boys," since it needed to be shaken for such a long time–close to a dozen minutes–they'd pass the shakers from bartender to bartender. And though the production has dwindled down since then, putting this drink together is definitely a labor of love. But. It's totally worth it. It's fresh, floral, foamy and oh-so good.
