Backyard Comradery

Don't have a lot of things to mix cocktails but have a lot of LaCroix?

Yeah, I've been noticing that trend lately too. #culturalphenomenon

When I think of the 4th of July, I think of daytime shenanigans. Lawn sports. BBQ. Sunshine. You know, the (fire)works. Cocktails are wonderful because they can be anything. A cocktail doesn't always have to be some extravagant to be a cocktail. Think of some of the simplest cocktails out there, exhibit A: Vodka Cranberry. Okay, maybe not the best example, but it's 2 ingredients and you just build it in a glass. So for 4th of July, when there's all these moving parts happening, you want cocktails that are easy, fast, light, refreshing–and ideally–festive. So, the question is, what's a simple way to people-please on a day like this? Um, combine two things that people seem to love: LaCroix and...well, booze.

I will admit, I am also on the bandwagon for the love of LaCroix. And also, I'm really diggin' how versatile it can be. Not only is it a great adult beverage alternative, but it's also a great adult beverage addition. That said, I thought I'd start adventuring my creations to incorporate this craze into some cocktail magic. So let's ignite the light and let it shine.

Let's concoct:

  • 1.5 oz Gin (or Vodka)
  • 1 oz Cointreau
  • 0.75 Grenadine
  • 4 Mint Leaves
  • (Berry) LaCroix

*Slightly muddle mint leaves in mixing tin. Add remaining ingredients. Shake with ice and fine strain into a Collin's glass and top with (Berry) LaCroix. Garnish with mint sprig.

Note: To be honest, there are many of the LaCroix flavors that would work for this space (probably a better one). The berry just was the one I had on hand–I'll be exploring other flavors to see what the best option for this one may be. Please send me a note if you find one that's fitting!
